A Welcoming Guide to Weddings at Colwick Hall
If you have just started planning your wedding and are looking for a venue that feels both grand and incredibly welcoming, Colwick Hall is a wonderful place to begin your search. Tucked away in 60 acres of serene parkland just two miles from Nottingham city centre, it offers a beautiful balance of historic romance and modern flexibility.
Choosing your venue is one of the biggest steps in your wedding planning journey, so take your time, grab a cup of tea, and let’s explore whether this magnificent Palladian-style Georgian manor might just be the one for you.
A Setting Steeped in Poetry and History
There is a certain magic to getting married somewhere with a story. Colwick Hall is a Grade II listed building and was once the ancestral home of the famous romantic poet, Lord Byron.
When you drive up the sweeping tree-lined avenue, you are greeted by stunning classical architecture. With its manicured lawns, tranquil lake, and history dating back to Saxon times, the venue provides a naturally romantic and relaxed backdrop for your day.
Spaces to Suit Your Unique Celebration
One of the loveliest things about Colwick Hall is how adaptable it is. Whether you are dreaming of a tiny, intimate gathering with your closest family or a spectacular celebration with hundreds of guests, they have a space that fits beautifully.
The 1776 Grand Ballroom
If you love period features, this space is breathtaking. It boasts an exquisite hand-painted ceiling depicting Venus and cherubs, supported by four ionic pillars. It is fully licensed for civil ceremonies and can comfortably host up to 90 guests for the ceremony and 150 for your evening reception.
The Lakeside Pavilion
For larger celebrations, including grand Asian weddings, this all-year-round grand marquee is simply brilliant. Accommodating up to 500 guests, it sits right on the edge of the lake with panoramic views of the country park. It comes complete with its own private decking, bar, dance floor, and stage, offering a blank canvas to decorate exactly as you wish.
The George Stubbs Room
Perfect for micro-weddings, this quaint, private room holds up to 12 guests and offers lovely views over the gardens.
The Champagne Lounge
Originally the manor’s library, this sophisticated space is frequently used for pre-ceremony drinks, mingling, or as a relaxed breakout room for your guests.
Rest Your Head: On-Site Accommodation
When the dancing finally comes to an end, it is such a comfort to know you don’t have to travel far. Colwick Hall offers 16 luxurious, individually designed boutique bedrooms. Your guests can enjoy gorgeous period features, whilst you can relax in one of their beautiful bridal suites—which boast huge windows, natural light, and plenty of space for your morning preparations!
A Little Advice for Your Planning Journey
If you are considering Colwick Hall, here are a few gentle tips to help you along the way:
Think about the season
The Lakeside Pavilion is brilliant all year round, but if you love the idea of golden hour photographs down by the lake, summer and early autumn weddings here are truly spectacular.
Make it your own
Because the venue offers both in-house catering (through their renowned Byron’s Brasserie) and dry-hire options for outside caterers in the Pavilion, you have total freedom to tailor the food to your culture and personal taste.
Take a deep breath
The team at Colwick Hall are known for being incredibly experienced and supportive. Lean on their wedding co-ordinators, they have seen it all and are there to shoulder the stress for you!
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Colwick Hall licensed for civil ceremonies?
Yes, absolutely. The venue has several licensed spaces, including the magnificent 1776 Grand Ballroom, allowing you to host your entire day seamlessly in one location without needing to travel.
Can Colwick Hall accommodate large Asian weddings?
Yes, it is one of the leading venues in Nottingham for larger celebrations. The Lakeside Pavilion is a grand marquee that can comfortably accommodate up to 500 guests. The venue also permits dry hire so you can bring in your own specialist outside caterers.
How many guests can stay overnight?
The hotel features 16 beautiful, en-suite boutique bedrooms, including signature bridal suites. Because the venue is only two miles from Nottingham city centre, there are also plenty of nearby hotel options for the rest of your wedding party.
Can we take photographs by the lake?
Definitely! The grounds are a dream for wedding photography. You have 60 acres to explore, but the private terrace, the tree-lined driveway, and the banks of the lake are particular favourites for capturing romantic, quiet moments together.
Your Wedding Day Safety Net
After shooting over 500 weddings, I know that great photos only happen when you are completely relaxed. That is why I act as an extra groomsman or bridesmaid on the day.
I carry a bag full of safety pins, crochet hook for tricky dress buttons, plasters, superglue etc. You never know what could happen. I have sewn split trousers back together, fixed buttonholes, driven the bridal party to the church when transport has let them down, I have even fixed the cake topper when it got broke in the post!
I handle the little stresses so you do not have to panic. You just focus on being yourselves, and I will capture the magic.
