In the midst of unprecedented challenges, love knows no boundaries. I had the privilege of documenting a heartwarming wedding in October 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which beautifully demonstrated that love could conquer any obstacle. In this blog post, I invite you to journey with us through the enchanting story of Lindsay & James, who celebrated their love with a Halloween-themed wedding at The West Mill in Darley Abbey near Derby. As an experienced West Mill Photographer, I was excited to get to capture their wedding at such an awesome venue. Despite the limited guest count and social restrictions, the day was beautifully put together and was a glimmer of happiness and hope in a desperate time.
West Mill Wedding in Lockdown
The year 2020 was a unique one for all of us. The COVID-19 pandemic brought about a new normal, which included restrictions on social gatherings. For James & Lindsay, their wedding was limited to just 15 of their closest friends and family. It was a test of love and resilience, and their day was a testament to the power of love in the face of adversity.
A Spooktacular Theme
The couple decided to embrace the Halloween spirit, adorning their wedding with pumpkins, orange hues, and autumnal flowers. The tables were decked out with tartan accents, adding a cozy and inviting touch to the overall decor. It was a bewitching blend of elegance and warmth.
Intimate Celebration
With only their closest friends and family present, this wedding felt exceptionally intimate. Love radiated from every guest, making the day even more special. Their 10-month-old daughter, Phoebe, added a touch of innocence and joy to the occasion. It was truly a day to remember.

The venue choice was exquisite. The West Mill in Darley Abbey near Derby provided a stunning and rustic backdrop for the celebration. The historic charm and scenic riverside location added a touch of timeless romance to the day. The venue staff always look after you well and the food is amazing! We of course had to take advantage of the unique features of this venue to great striking photos of Lindsay & James.

What is a wedding without a beautiful cake? The couple's cake was a work of art - elegant and delicious, just like their love. Alongside the main cake, they had a delightful assortment of cupcakes, making it a sweet and memorable treat for their guests.
