Why Mythe Barn is the Perfect Backdrop for Relaxed Wedding Photos
If you are dreaming of a rustic yet modern countryside wedding, Mythe Barn in Sheepy Magna is an absolutely spectacular choice. Set amidst 150 acres of Leicestershire farmland, it perfectly blends traditional elegance with a contemporary, light filled design.
As a Midlands wedding photographer with 18 years of experience and over 500 weddings under my belt, Mythe Barn is always a highlight on my calendar.
My approach to photography is entirely documentary. That means no awkward posing and no taking you away from your guests for hours on end. I am there to capture the real laughs, the happy tears, and the genuine fun of your day.
Here is my insider guide to getting the best out of your Mythe Barn wedding photos.
The Morning: Private, Relaxed Prep Spaces
Mythe Barn has two incredible spaces for the morning of your wedding: The Hayloft and The Stables
The Hayloft is a wonderfully cosy space but yet with plenty of space for you and your wedding party to get hair and makeup done together. I can simply blend into the background while you enjoy a grazing board and a glass of fizz with your best people!
If your partner is getting ready on site too, The Stables are a fantastic, secluded spot for them to relax, get ready and maybe share a drink with their crew before the nerves kick in. Alternatively, a lot of guys use the Stable for a space to get in their suits and share a beer and a bacon cob with their mates, hopefully with no saucy disasters!
Having both of you on site means I can easily jump between the two spaces to capture both sides of the morning story without missing a beat.
The Ceremony: The Oak Barn or The Outdoor Gazebo
When it comes to saying your vows, Mythe Barn offers two stunning options.
If you are getting married indoors, The Oak Barn is breathtaking. It boasts a double height solid oak frame and massive floor to ceiling windows. Unlike many traditional dark barns, this room lets the light pour in. I love shooting here because the natural light provides a beautiful, flattering glow as you walk down the aisle. I can position myself out of the way, capturing the emotion of the ceremony with the rolling fields as your backdrop.
If you are planning an outdoor summer wedding, the fairy tale Oak Gazebo in the gardens is perfect. With views stretching down to the River Sence, it is an idyllic setting for a sunny ceremony.
The Drinks Reception: The Cart Barn and Courtyard
After the ceremony, the celebrations usually move into The Cart Barn and out into the beautiful south facing Courtyard.
Because Mythe Barn flows so perfectly from one room to the next, you do not lose any time traveling. This means you get straight to the fun part! While you are mingling with your guests, playing garden games, or enjoying canapés, I am working the room. I look for the candid moments: the huge hugs from relatives, the kids running around on the grass, and the relaxed conversations.
We will take just 15 minutes to capture your essential family group shots, and then I will leave you to enjoy your party.
The Wedding Breakfast and Evening Party
For your meal, The Grain Store is a spectacular, light filled space with impressive chandeliers and far reaching views of the countryside. It is a fantastic room for capturing the speeches. I love looking around the room to catch the proud parents dabbing their eyes and the groomsmen crying with laughing at the best man’s joke about the groom.
As the evening draws in, the atmosphere at Mythe Barn completely transforms. The south facing courtyard comes alive under the beautiful glow of the festoon lighting. With the outdoor kitchen firing up wood fired pizzas, street food, or a barbecue, it creates the ultimate relaxed vibe. Guests can sit outside with a drink, enjoy the fresh country air, and chat. It is the perfect setting for me to capture those natural, unposed evening moments while everyone is completely at ease.
If we get a nice sunset, I will steal you away for just ten minutes. We will take a quick walk out toward the surrounding meadows for some epic, romantic golden hour portraits. It gives you a few quiet moments together to catch your breath before the madness of the dancefloor begins.
When it is time for the party to officially kick off, you can choose between the Grain Store and the Oak Barn. Both spaces provide the perfect acoustics and atmosphere for a live band or a DJ.
I do not just photograph the first dance and then run home. I love getting right into the thick of the action. I will be right there on the dancefloor capturing the terrible dad dancing, the ties tied around heads, and the absolute joy of your friends letting their hair down. I blend in with your guests, have a laugh, and make sure you have photos of the real party.
Your Wedding Day Safety Net
After shooting over 500 weddings, I know that great photos only happen when you are completely relaxed. That is why I act as an extra groomsman or bridesmaid on the day.
I carry a bag full of safety pins, crochet hook for tricky dress buttons, plasters, superglue etc. You never know what could happen. I have sewn split trousers back together, fixed buttonholes, driven the bridal party to the church when transport has let them down, I have even fixed the cake topper when it got broke in the post!
I handle the little stresses so you do not have to panic. You just focus on being yourselves, and I will capture the magic.

“Right from the start, Chris was approachable, friendly and a had good sense of humour. He was a pleasure to have at our Wedding in October 2021.
He did an amazing job – and was even a little hero at certain points during the day.
He is clearly very experienced when it comes to wedding photography and helped in many different ways. Chris has a relaxed style and is happy to listen to what you want but also able to be a ‘fly on the wall’, creating some amazing photos of your big day.”
